Method of painting tiles

Painting tiles doesn't seem that difficult at first glance, but there is a lot more to it than you might initially think. If you want to make it easy on yourself, you can leave the work to a professional. But how exactly will a painter proceed?

Step 1: Clean tiles and tape off the area

The first step is to clean the tiles with degreaser. This is important for a nice result and this way the paint can also adhere better to the tiles. Once the tiles are cleaned then it is time to tape the area. The professional will use masking tape for this.

Step 2: Sanding the tiles

As a next step, the professional will sand the tiles that need to be painted. Sanding them will make the paint adhere even better because the surface becomes rougher.

Step 3: Painting the tiles

As a final step, the professional will paint the tiles. In some cases, a good primer is necessary, such as when using special hot water-resistant paint for bathrooms. The professional will first paint the taped edges and joints with a brush and then take care of the large areas with a roller. One coat is often not enough when painting tiles. Exactly how many coats are needed depends on the type of tile and the paint. A floor usually needs several coats. Generally, 2-3 coats are sufficient.
