The exterior wall of your home defies itself through all kinds of weather. Literally. Due to the often turbulent climate in the Netherlands, your exterior wall has to endure a lot of bad weather, such as rain, frost and temperature fluctuations. It is therefore important to regularly maintain and paint your exterior walls. A lick of paint is all it takes to make your exterior wall shine again. It doesn't matter what kind of house you live in. Whether you have a cabin on the moors, an ordinary terraced house or a detached villa, you should paint the exterior walls about every 5 years to 10 years. This is because the exterior walls protect your palace from all the weather conditions mentioned earlier. If you do not have your exterior wall painted, you may suffer from moisture, with miserable consequences. Leaks and/or mold are lurking. And nobody wants that, right?
Painting the outside wall
Before the painter can start painting the outside wall, it must of course be thoroughly cleaned. On an oily and/or dirty exterior wall, it is impossible to apply a nice, opaque coat of paint. After the exterior wall has been cleaned, the primer/primer can be applied. Once this has dried properly, it is possible to top it off with the color of your choice. It does not matter whether you use a dark or light paint. When painting the facade, it is more important to pay attention to whether the color matches the look you want to achieve and whether it provides sufficient protection. There are roughly 3 ways to paint the exterior wall. Below are the three techniques, along with their advantages.
Exterior wall painting with vapor-permeable wall paint, such as acrylic.
Repels moisture from the outside
Moisture does get from the inside to the outside. Especially if you are going to insulate a cavity wall, a vapor-permeable wall paint is a must.
Exterior wall chalking with lime plaster.
Environmentally friendly and durable.
Different colors possible.
Camouflages damaged, unsightly spots.
Vapor permeable paint. Even with this technique, moisture can find its way from the inside to the outside.
Exterior wall painting with mineral paint (Keim).
Vapor permeable.
No moss or mold will develop on this technique.
Various colors possible.
Environmentally friendly and durable.
No peeling paint over time.
Painting a plastered exterior wall
Both a smooth plastered exterior wall and a brick wall can be painted. Painting a plastered exterior wall is generally not a problem.
