Boiler maintenance plans compared: costs, cover and conditions

A low monthly fee sounds straightforward. Until you discover that parts cost extra, servicing only happens every two years or you are still tied to a contract. Compare the total costs, breakdown cover and conditions so you know what you are paying for.

Comparing boiler maintenance plans starts with one question: do you only want to arrange servicing, or do you also want cover for future breakdowns? In the Netherlands, Feenstra, Breman, Kemkens, Eneco and Energiewacht offer different plans for homeowners. You can also book a one-off boiler service, for example through Zoofy.

Could suit you if: you want one provider for servicing and breakdown assistance, with a choice of repair cover.

Breman boiler maintenance plans: check eligibility and contract length

Breman offers Basis, Comfort and All-in. Comfort covers labour for breakdown repairs. All-in also includes parts costs up to €300. Check your offer to see how this limit applies.

Breman lists boilers under 15 years old for Basis and Comfort, and under 12 years old for All-in. The first comprehensive service is offered free, excluding parts. Additional charges may apply for overdue maintenance.

The minimum contract term is two years, followed by a one-month notice period. Breman also lists restrictions for new applications in the central Netherlands: in that region, applications are limited to boilers installed by Breman less than 30 months ago.

Could suit you if: Breman accepts your postcode and boiler, and you want to combine servicing with breakdown cover.

Kemkens boiler maintenance plans: three levels of cover

Kemkens offers Comfort Basis, Comfort and Comfort Plus. Standard servicing takes place every two years. Annual servicing is available for an additional €4.70 per month, or €56.40 per year.

Comfort and Comfort Plus include labour for breakdown repairs. Comfort Plus also covers boiler parts up to €275 per incident with the same underlying fault. Peripheral equipment and installation components are excluded from this parts cover. Boilers must be no more than five years old when joining Comfort Plus.

The contract page lists a standard term of two years. Ask for confirmation of the exact cover and cancellation terms in your offer.

Could suit you if: you want a choice between basic maintenance and more extensive repair cover, with the option of annual servicing.

Eneco ServiceGemak: annual or two-yearly servicing

Eneco offers Basis, Extra and Compleet. Basis and Extra include servicing every two years. Compleet includes an annual service.

Extra provides parts cover up to €150 per year. Compleet increases this to €500 per year, subject to the conditions. An annual limit works differently from a limit per breakdown: several repairs can use up the same yearly allowance.

The published contract term is one year. The first service is offered free, although necessary remedial work may cost extra.

Could suit you if: you want annual servicing combined with breakdown cover, or prefer a plan with a stated annual allowance for parts.

What should you check when comparing boiler maintenance plans?

How often will your boiler be serviced?

Paying every month does not mean an engineer visits every year. Several plans include servicing every two years. Check whether that interval matches the maintenance requirements for your boiler’s make and model.

What will you pay if your boiler breaks down?

Check call-out charges, labour and parts separately. Access to a breakdown helpline does not automatically mean repairs are included. A service being available by phone 24/7 is also different from a guaranteed arrival time.

What is excluded?

Check parts allowances and exclusions. A yearly limit works differently from a limit per breakdown. Pipes, radiators and other components outside the boiler may also fall outside the cover.

What are the initial costs and minimum contract term?

Include any initial inspection, first service or necessary remedial work in your comparison. Then check both the minimum contract term and the notice period afterwards. Monthly payments do not automatically mean you can cancel every month.

Boiler servicing without a subscription through Zoofy

Prefer to decide when to book your next service? You can book a one-off boiler service through Zoofy without an ongoing boiler maintenance contract.

A maintenance plan can suit you if you want one provider for servicing and breakdown assistance. One-off servicing can suit you if you prefer to arrange maintenance yourself and can pay separately for unexpected repairs. Which option costs less also depends on future breakdowns.

Frequently asked questions about boiler maintenance plans

Which boiler maintenance plan is cheapest?

Among the plans with a published price in this comparison, Kemkens Comfort Basis has the lowest monthly fee at €8. Also compare joining costs, cover and any charges for breakdown repairs. The lowest monthly fee does not necessarily mean the lowest total cost.

Can I cancel a boiler maintenance plan monthly?

That depends on the contract. Feenstra lists a minimum term of one year for a separately purchased service plan, after which it can be cancelled monthly. Breman lists a minimum of two years, followed by a one-month notice period. Always check your own offer.

Does an all-in plan include everything?

Cover differs between providers. Parts limits, age restrictions and exclusions may apply. Check which components are covered and which costs you still have to pay yourself.

Can I have my boiler serviced without a maintenance plan?

Yes. You can book a one-off service, for example through Zoofy. You are then responsible for arranging servicing when it is due and paying separately for future repairs.

Does my boiler need servicing every year?

Follow the maintenance instructions for your boiler’s make and model and the advice of your maintenance engineer. Choose a suitable servicing interval, even if a plan includes servicing every two years as standard.

Want to arrange a boiler service without an ongoing boiler contract? Check the price and book boiler servicing through Zoofy.
