Having peeling paint painted over usually costs between €100 and €350, depending on the size of the surface, the condition of the substrate and the amount of preparation needed. If a lot of loose paint needs to be removed, filling is required or primer is needed, the price may be higher. Materials such as sandpaper, filler, primer and paint may be added separately.
Painting over peeling paint usually takes around 2 to 6 hours. The time mainly depends on removing loose paint layers, sanding, cleaning, repairing and applying the number of paint layers. Due to drying time between primer and paint, the total turnaround time may be longer than the actual working time.
The tradesperson first checks why the paint is peeling, for example due to moisture, poor adhesion or old paint layers. Loose paint is then removed, uneven areas are sanded and damage is repaired where needed. After that, the tradesperson applies a suitable primer and paint, so the new layer adheres properly and dries smoothly.
