The cause of a smell in the house is not always the sewer itself. However, odour in the house does mean that there are too many odour-forming bacteria present. To combat the odour nuisance, it is necessary to think carefully. Is there water in the crawl space? Where is the odour most prominent? What exactly do you smell? Is the smell sweet, sour or just musty?
How to solve a stench in the house
Before calling the emergency services, it is a good idea to take a walk around your home yourself. Open all taps for a short while and check that the water can drain away. If possible, use hot water and add one or two tablespoons of silver soda if the water is hot. If there is only a cold water tap (washbasin, toilet), take a jug of warm water with some soda dissolved in it. Pour this down the drain. In this way, you will immediately fill all the dry pits and drains, blocking any air that comes out of the sewer.
Sewer blockage
If there is a blockage somewhere, if the water drains very slowly or not at all, the problem is obvious. The smell of sewage in the house is caused by a blockage in the drain. An annoying problem that can be easily remedied by a professional plumber. Don't try to get rid of the blockage yourself with aggressive solvents or metal wires. Just go to Zoofy
